You may have read in the press recently that the government is pressing ahead with the introduction of the Summary Care Record System. At present there are no plans to introduce this in Bucks. However, Berkshire and Oxfordshire have pressed ahead therefore it is likely to impact upon us sometime in the future (unless of course a new government decides otherwise). In some areas i.e. Hampshire they have introduced a local Summary Care Record System.
Summary Care Records are central to the NHS computer upgrade in England, which is the biggest healthcare IT programme in the world. The basic record includes information on allergies, medication and adverse reactions. Further details may be added over time.
Patients are told by letter before their details go on to the system, giving them the chance to opt out.
Please read the information on www.nhscarerecords.nhs.uk which outlines what the Summary Care Record is trying to achieve.
Should you wish to opt out because you have concerns regarding the security of your personal data, or you simply do not wish to be included on any national or local database, please print off the opt out form and return it to us so that we can reflect your wishes in your medical records.
For an alternative view you may wish to visit www.neilb.demon.co.uk but please use our opt out form and not the one within this website."
